Amendment and referendum, opposition resources Maduro exit
The MUD plans to activate simultaneous and leverage on street protests.
Venezuela's opposition coalition gathered in the Democratic Unity Roundtable (MUD) announced Tuesday that activate parallel mechanisms and revocatory referendum constitutional amendment to shorten the presidential term Nicolas Maduro and call new elections this year.
The Secretary General of the MUD, Jesus 'CHUO' Torrealba, said that the opposition will leverage these tools with street demonstrations to also pressure the Venezuelan president to submit his resignation.

"Nicholas will not resign, will be dedicated exclusively to rule for most of the country, even for them (critics)," said the head of the ruling legislative bloc, Hector Rodriguez, in an interview with AFP.
The opposition strategy, called 'Roadmap 2016', was approved unanimously and, according to Torrealba, "it is a necessary transition steps for a united Venezuela".
But the implementation of these steps presupposes a very strong political struggle for the country to start in the National Assembly, where there is already a proposed amendment to pass the presidential term from six to four years. This option is the most expeditious time, since the proposal must be approved by a simple majority of deputies-the opposition has two-thirds of the chamber and then be subjected to a referendum for approving, in the following 30 days, Venezuelans express their agreement with the change in the Constitution.
In principle would not have to go through the Supreme Tribunal of Justice (TSJ), but with the conflict of powers raised by the Constitutional Chamber of the entity which in addition to denying the swearing in of opposition deputies Amazon issued a decision limiting the comptroller attributions parliament-predicted barriers to this mechanism. Including the observation that a cut mandate would not be retroactive, that is, they may not apply to the president.
When asked about this possibility, Torrealba opened the possibility that Venezuelans express their opinion, probably in the same referendum to approve the amendment. "Let's see what the people say. If the people say it is for this government, then so be it. "
The recall referendum, the opposition, with its parliamentary majority, also hopes to modify the rules of recall referenda and draft a law on referendums. The current legislation was described by Torrealba as "absurd" the president-and the Assembly, Henry Ramos, claimed that the recall was one engorroso- process, given the number of steps it imposes, so the goal is to make fluid procedures and cut out the lapses to make the recall takes place before January 2017.
In theory, not have to go through the Supreme Court, although it is likely that the new law on referenda itself. Be made after that date, the vice president of the country would complete the presidential term and would not call for elections. "We will take the forecasts for the recall is not a scam, so that it is not just a change of president, but a change of government," he said Torrealba.
Ramos, meanwhile, told TIME that a group of lawyers already working on the draft new law on referendums, which would be introduced in the coming weeks.
Opponents are confident that the civil unrest around the terrible economic, social and service situation in the country act as the catalyst to mobilize people to support these proposals. "Today there is a national outcry, this does not hold, it is unbearable."
The first of these street protests was called for Saturday 12 March.
